Will Memphis Support A Brighter Tomorrow?

Memphis voters will decide in November if they want to pay higher taxes to make up for a loss in federal pre-kindergarten funding — despite a state comptroller’s report that the programs have no lasting benefits.
With support from the Memphis City Council and the Greater Memphis Chamber, the public relations firm Sutton Reid is overseeing an advertising campaign designed to convince voters to support a sales tax increase.
If voters approve the measure, Memphis residents will pay a half a percentage point increase in sales taxes on non-food purchases, from 9.25 percent to 9.75 percent, said Sutton Reid representative Steven Reid.
City leaders say raising the sales tax to 9.75 percent will raise around $47 million dollars, with the money generated going towards funding a citywide universal pre-kindergarten program and lower property tax rates.

The voters should vote yes o this tax raise. Even though it is costing people money, don't just think about now. Think about how having an early start on education will affect those kids later in life. If the Pre-K tax raise is approved this will be the best thing that could happen for this city. A majority of children who drop out of school had no early start on education. Many children drop out of school because they think they can't succeed because the work is too hard. If every four-year old is able to attend Pre-K imagine what long term affects that will have within fourteen years. Many people have no hope for society because of the actions of our teens today, if you want hope then it would be in society's best interest to vote yes.

Why We Should NOT Abolish Grading

Why We Should NOT Abolish Grading

A world where the school system has no common success needs is like having a government with no laws. If grading were to be abolished this would be the greatest blunder our superiors of the school system will ever make.  Stated by Paul Goodman, the author of A Proposal to Abolish Grading, he stands for abolishing grading.  He uttered, "What a grim waste of young life and teacherly effort."  I strongly disagree with this declaration. Having no system of grading, would basically express we have no structure in our education system. Having a grading system is like having a progress chart and a natural standard. For instance, if I receive a C on a homework assignment I know I will have to try harder and will want to improve that grade. I know there are other grades higher than what I have; I want the highest grade so I will feel, "I have mastered this lesson."

The grade of an A, B, C, D, could have standards as high as the teacher want them to be.  Just because you may have to stay in that span of letters, doesn't mean they can’t stand for what you want them to stand for.  The students can always go the extra mile of what is required of them. The decision is up to that student to make the grade what it is really worth not to anyone, but themself

Paul Goodman- "But I submit that this setup itself makes it impossible for the student to become a master, to have grown up, and to commence his own."  As I declared in the past, the decision is up to that student to go the extra mile.  Who says that the grading scale holds students back?  It is only true if the student themselves has that philosophy.

Tattoos

Tattoos, some people love them some people hate them. Some people say tattoos hurt. Some people say tattoos don't hurt. I have one tattoo, but I want many more. That unexplainable feeling when the buzzing needle goes into your skin. I don't know what it is about tattoos that makes me want more. I got my first tattoo towards the ending of May of this year. I think this or the one after it I'm getting two or three more tattoos. People ask me why do I want tattoos. I simply tell them my body is a canvas for art, or my body is like a temple that I want to customize. There are limitations to tattoos, such as where to get them.
In my opinion for now(because in the future my mind may change) I don't think you should get tattoos on your face until you have a secure job and you are successful in life. There a few places i will never get a tattoo: my face, anywhere on my head, my neck,my feet, my thighs, my butt, or my hands. Those are just strange places to me. Except those places I will get a tattoo anywhere. I love tattoos because it's a way of history to me. If you get a tattoo of something when you're a teenager , and you get another tattoo when you're in your twenties that has is different than your other, then it shows your way of thinking or interests have changed. I will be my own gallery of history. When someone asks me why did I get a certain tattoo I'll tell them why. I will only tell them because every tattoo has a story that wants to be told. Comment and tell me your standpoint on tattoos.
